From the PresidentWell things certainly have picked up in pace again! It’s getting close to “bump-in” week for West Side Story. The show promises to be an extremely entertaining night out but don’t forget to bring the Kleenex! In case you didn’t realise, West Side Story is actually based on the Shakespearian play Romeo and Juliet; this story of forbidden love has been catapulted through time to take place in New York in the late 50s with the warring gangs of “Puerto Ricans” versus “Americans”. With Bernstein’s striking score and Sondheim’s candid and clever lyrics this musical is still as relevant today as it was in the 50s and the 1600s! The cast and production team have worked tirelessly over the last two months and if the run on camp was any indication, you will be exhausted from watching the energetic dancing and there will not be a dry eye in the house. Don’t miss out on this golden opportunity to see a classic piece of theatre come alive at the Drum in September! Tickets are available on 9771 6666 from The Drum. We are also pleased to announce that we have secured the rights for Sweeney Todd -The Demon Barber of Fleet Street for our first musical for 2007. The Production team will be selected soon. Watch our website for announcements! But before we get too carried away with another musical, don’t forget that we also have another excellent play selection in summer for your delight. The very funny Noises Off is also be staged at The Drum in late January. The production team is about to be selected and casting will soon follow. Again, for information on this and our other projects please visit our website: www.dandenongtheatre.org.au As a regular reader of our newsletter, it may also be timely to consider that the AGM is only just around the corner! You may perhaps give some thought to putting your hand up to assist the company as a committee member, as we expect that a number of committee members will be stepping down at our AGM. In the meantime, if you are at a loose end over the next couple of weekends, come down to set construction and give us a hand on the WSS set!!! Otherwise we’ll see you at the Drum in September! Cheers Victoria Zainal, DTC President DTC selects their next 2 showsDTC will perform Noises Off in January 2007 and Sweeney Todd in April 2007. Watch our website or join our mailing list for updates!
